Gideon Koro, a native of Umboi Island, Papua New Guinea, was interviewed by Jonathan Whitcomb in 2004. He described to the American cryptozoologist the ropen he had encountered around late 1994, at Lake Pung: "no feathers" . . . "mouth, like a crocodile" . . . tail length: "seven meters." Garth Guessman explored Umboi Island (with David Woetzel) a few weeks later (2004), interviewing other eyewitnesses.
