The concept that pterosaurs (AKA "pterodactyls") are still living--that seems shocking to many people in developed countries like the United States. But eyewitnesses of pterosaur-like creatures are more numerous than most would guess, and many of them are Americans who have seen these featherless flying creatures in America. (And some of the creatures resemble the ropen of Papua New Guinea.)
An American nonfiction author, Jonathan Whitcomb, has suggested that the strange Marfa Lights of Texas may be the bioluminescent glow of nocturnal flying predators that are similar to the pterosaur-like ropen of Papua New Guinea. The second edition of his cryptozoology book "Live Pterosaurs in America" should be published by about the end of November, 2010. One chapter is devoted to Marfa Lights.
